ABSOLUT Joins as Sponsor for Cafe Tabac Film’s #NYCPride2015 Fundraiser Event!
We are so proud to announce ABSOLUT as a key sponsor for our upcoming #Back2Tabac #NYCPride2015 Fundraiser Event Sponsored By MAC Cosmetics. Absolut vodka beverages will be provided complimentary throughout the night!
We targeted Absolut for sponsorship, as we did MAC Cosmetics, because of their role in the early ’90s history of LGBTQ visibility that is central to our film. Many brands were beginning to see the untapped dollar potential in the LGBTQ community in the late ’80s/early ’90s, but marketed, in a matter of speaking, in a corporate closet; and they saw their desired alliance with the LGBTQ community as risky.
Not Absolut. They were “Out & Proud” of their alliance. They celebrated it boldly and ubiquitously, splashing their iconic ads across the back covers of so many of our publications. Those ads gave rise to LGBTQ printed media, and at times financed the very existence of those publications. Absolut were pioneers and because of their leadership, helped shift our media landscape and corporate culture to show that supporting the LGBTQ community is not only good policy, but good for business. Because of corporations like Absolut, others ride today’s corporate wave of support for equal rights through gay marriage. And for the record, Absolut has been a gay marriage advocate since 1989.
